Presenting at the ETJ Expo in Tokyo
After a 4 year COVID hiatus, the very popular ETJ EXPOs have returned. It’s a great opportunity to meet fellow teachers, school owners and entrepreneurs. Perhaps the biggest take-away for me is seeing other presenters seminars and chatting with them, through these interactions we can learn a lot and make our lessons better.
I presented on a simple to follow lesson plan for beginning elementary students. All of us at Dave and Amy English School have tested the plan, texts and goods (flashcards and games) with our own students for many years - so we know it’s a fun and effective plan. What’s more: the plan still works even if we mix up the materials or develop new goods.
This is the gist of what is
covered in the video:
Don’t overthink lesson planning. Keep it simple. Our basic plan (in any order)
- 20 minutes text (My English Book and Me: Elementary 1)
- 10 minutes Q & A (choose from the ones that complement the text).
- 30 minutes: 2 activities (choosing from flashcards or games). (Flip n’ Read, Read n’ Match, Bingo… etc.)
I recommend doing the same 2 types of activities for the 30 minute time for all your lessons that week (of course vary it by level). Possibly keep the same 2 for 2 or 3 weeks and then change in order to see levels of progression.
Of course, more is covered in the video, so take a look!
